Recycled Gloves - a better option for vets and farmers

New Zealand's First 100% Recycled Exam Glove Is Here
The animal health industry has a new tool — and it's been a long time coming.
THE ReGLOVE is New Zealand's first 100% post-consumer recycled plastic shoulder-length examination glove. Designed specifically for the high-volume, single-use glove demands of veterinary work and on-farm tasks, it was developed by Jennifer Stone, a practising large-animal veterinarian who felt the industry needed to do better.
Built Out of Frustration — and Determination
Jennifer works with large animals, including dairy cattle. Like every large-animal vet in the country, she was going through box after box of virgin-plastic single-use disposable gloves — for calvings, reproductive exams, AI procedures, and more — with no good alternative in sight.
Previous options — biodegradable gloves, compostable gloves, on-site washing programmes — consistently underperformed. They failed on strength, stability, or practicality. So vets and farmers kept using virgin plastic, and the landfill waste kept piling up.
"I really believed that as an industry, we must find ways to do better."
— Jennifer Stone, founder of THE ReGLOVE
In 2024, Jennifer founded Stonelands Veterinary Supplies Ltd with a single mission: to prove that the veterinary industry can do better. THE ReGLOVE is the result.
Performance That Matches the Job
Shoulder-length gloves aren't a simple product. In large animal work, they need to be:
- Strong — standing up to demanding vet field conditions with a wider thumb angle for increased range of movement
- Sensitive — tactile enough to feel required anatomical structures without compromise
- Durable and reliable — consistent performance, procedure after procedure
THE ReGLOVE was rigorously tested under exactly these conditions and meets all three. Made from post-consumer recycled plastic, it reduces demand for fossil fuels and new virgin materials — without asking vets or farmers to compromise on the tools they rely on.
Recognition From the Industry
THE ReGLOVE didn't just quietly enter the market — it earned recognition.
Innovation Franklin Shark Tank Competition finalist — judges praised it as an "innovative, smart, sustainable solution to a long-standing challenge."
New Zealand Veterinary Association — formally supported THE ReGLOVE and featured it both on their website and in their publications.
DairyNZ and Fonterra — both have noted its potential as farms face growing environmental requirements and consumer demand for low-emission dairy.
Industry voices have called it a great step in the right direction — a product that helps vets align their daily practice with the sustainability advice they give farmers.
Why This Matters Beyond the Clinic
Vets are trusted advisors on farm sustainability — guiding decisions on resource efficiency, environmental management, and responsible practice. Yet until now, their own single-use glove habit was an uncomfortable contradiction.
ReGLOVE resolves that. It means vets can genuinely lead by example during peak calving, in DIY AI programmes, and across day-to-day large animal work.
"Vets have a role in demonstrating feasible positive changes."
This development also reflects a broader shift across NZ agriculture — balancing performance with sustainability, driven by both regulatory pressure and market demand from processors such as DairyNZ and Fonterra.
